My take on Pete Rose is that he belongs in the hall…just not during his lifetime. Future generations will get to remember his contribution to the game, but he should not get to bask in it. Future generations should admire the magnificent effort that he put in on every play…and be chastened.
As the author of the article says, “Rose’s transgression tarnished the game’s integrity.” When future generations browse Cooperstown, that should be part of the exhibit.
I’ve come to feel the same way about many of the steroid users.
